AHMEDABAD: For the first time, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will appoint an agency to prepare a disaster management plan for the old city area with a special emphasis on heritage structures .
The move comes after several buildings were termed dilapidated and dangerous in the old city area. The study would also draw a risk assessment map for the 5 sq km area of the old city.
For this purpose a Central government agency National Institute of Disaster Management would be engaged for carrying out a study. A corpus of Rs 10.6 lakh has already been approved by the standing committee. As part of the first instalment the AMC would pay Rs 5.3 lakh to NIDM to initiate the study.
