Gujaratstartups, BHARUCH: The Gujarat government will be appointing a consultant to carry out a study on infrastructure in Bharuch and Ankleshwar, which it plans to develop as twin cities.

Industries and mines department principal secretary Maheshwar Sahu told TOI that within a year a concrete shape will be given to the plan for integrated and comprehensive development of the two cities. Sahu said, "Bharuch is going to become a hub for massive industrial development. Therefore, it is important to look to its infrastructure needs."

The Alia island near an estuary of river Narmada will be declared as an entertainment and aqua culture zone, he said, adding that some issues pertaining to it were yet to be resolved as the area was under forest department's jurisdiction. The final report on it is expected in six months' time, he added.

The state government was also serious in addressing the soil erosion and salinity issues on the banks of Narmada, Sahu said. He informed that a Rs 300 crore weir-cum-causeway project has also been planned near Bhadbhut village.
