Gujaratstartups, AHMEDABAD: Gujarat is now one of the states with widest forensic sciences facilities for the police force. On Saturday, chief ministerNarendra Modi inaugurated forensic science laboratory (FSL) building at Rajkot in the presence of Dr J M Vyas, director general of directorate of forensic science, Gandhinagar, and other officials. According to DFS officials, it is the seventh regional FSL to facilitate criminal investigation and handling other important cases.

Dr Vyas told TOI that the newly-built facility is one of the biggest in the state. "It is equipped with most modern equipment and experts to look after the Rajkot range covering Rajkot city, rural areas, Surendranagar and Jamnagar police jurisdictions. Earlier, the entire Saurashtra area was looked after a single FSL at Junagadh. The new facility will divide the region in two and ease up the work load of the experts and help them serve better," he said.

Officials said that apart from Junagadh, the state has regional FSLs in Ahmedabad, Surat, Valsad, Vadodara and Gandhinagar. Apart from the regional FSLs, every district in the state has been equipped with a mobile van facility for gathering forensic evidences from crime scene.
