Gujaratstartups, SURAT: With plans afoot to set up three resort-cum-entertainment parks, a couple of golf clubs with amusement parks and a film city, Surat is poised to become the entertainment capital of Gujarat. These facilities worth more than Rs 17,000 crore are expected to generate 1 lakh jobs.

Work for setting up a luxurious beach resort hotel in Suwali has started at the cost of Rs 150 crore. Atlanta Limited from Mumbai that has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the tourism department of Gujarat to set up a number of hospitality facilities across the state, will also set up a beach resort and a hotel at Suwali beach, 15 km from Surat city.

TransGlobe Investors have begun their work to set up a mega tourism park with an all-in-one weekend destination about 20 km off Surat city. A promoter of the company said it will generate employment for 5,400 local hands in two years. This set of promoters are also developing a semi-film studio on a 100-acres plot to teach acting, dancing and grooming.

Land acquisition process for another resort for Indo-Gulf Securities is complete in the first month of 2011 and a resort at a cost of Rs 700 crore is likely to come up in 18 months. Besides, Renee Industries will set up a five-star beach resort in Suvali at a cost of Rs 300 crore in 24 months, and also build a five-star hotel in Saputara worth Rs 250 crore. Ravani Developers is planning a hotel-cum-golf club at a cost of Rs 310 crore that will generate employment for 500 people.

Parshwanath Project will build a resort-cum-amusement park worth Rs 224 crore. Suvali beach will get another resort from NCC Infrastructure worth Rs 100 crore. Trilliant Hospitality will build a five-star hotel - Surat Sheraton - at a cost of Rs 213 crore, employing nearly 300 persons.

Lords Institute of Management will establish a management institute worth Rs 5 crore, while Four Point Infrastructure, with a view to boosting business-tourism, will build a luxurious hotel near Convention Centre in Sarsana. Shah and Sanghvi Properties has come up with the plans of Gold Coast Beach Resort worth Rs 250 crore that will generate employment to 2,000 people of coastal area. Swagtika Impacts will set up Surat Cruise Project worth Rs 10 crore.

A four-star hotel with a revolving restaurant and 60 rooms will be set up by River Front Hotels at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Amar Raval has signed the agreement for a 7-star hotel worth Rs 270 crore.

Loot India will provide employment to 1,000 people by constructing a budget hotel at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Waterside Hotels and Resorts are planning to set up a naturopathy, yogic and ayurvedic resort-cum-holiday home worth Rs 50 crore.

"Once these projects are complete in three years, Surat would have the most number of recreational facilities in the state," vice-president of Surat Hoteliers Association Sanat Reliya said. "Now, we are at the bottom, but in five years we will be on top of the heap," he added.
