Gujaratstartups, VADODARA: GAIL India Ltd has given an in principle nod to Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for the supply of an additional quantity of gas to the city, thus enabling the civic body to increase the number of gas connections in the city. With this, the civic body expects to give another 10,000 gas connections in the city in the coming one month.
A meeting chaired by VMC commissioner M K Das and GAIL CMD B C Tripathi was held in Delhi on Tuesday to look into various issues, including gas supply and the joint venture (JV) between the civic body and GAIL. At the meeting, GAIL officials agreed in principle to increase the gas supply to the civic body, thus facilitating the new connections. GAIL officials said the issue will now be taken to the next board meeting and necessary permission will be obtained.
Another meeting of the steering committee formed by VMC and GAIL to see the JV through was also held. VMC officials said all issues pertaining to the JV were discussed in the meeting with a view that the new company should take off in next three months. It was also agreed that new domestic gas connections and three new CNG stations for automobiles will be brought to the city.
As a first step towards the JV, it was decided that a third party should evaluate the assets and submit a report regarding the business plan of the new company. It was also decided that the new company will operate from a floor in the building that GAIL was constructing in the city. For effective distribution of gas, it was decided that a gas management cell must be formed.
